Welcome to our new Excursions Barcelona website & blog

Two men with kayaks.

I am excited to introduce you to our new website and blog. This is where we plan to share our thoughts on our next big ideas, great things about Barcelona, Catalonia and Spain. We also plan to give you updates on Excursions Barcelona’s activities, including the latest offers, program events & partners around the world. Or, we may just share whatever is on our mind.

So…….

WELCOME TO OUR NEW EXCURSIONS BARCELONA WEBSITE & BLOG

This by the way, is our very first blog. This might seem a bit strange to some as blogging is now a very normal, and expected part of any website.

So, why didn’t we get amongst it sooner? It’s a good question, well put!

The answer is in part very simple:

We just didn’t have the time…..and, well, we had our old website for 5 years , it served us well….. though a bit dated, possibly antique in the digital world and, it didn’t have the capabilities to have a blog.

To go into a bit more detail; Oh, btw I’m now going to use this as an excuse to talk about ourselves and how we got here:

LOOKING BACK

We have come a long way since meeting in a Barcelona Bar (yes, of course a bar, where all entrepreneurs and ideas come together, and then sometimes also forgotten that same night!).

After several cañas, and possibly a chupito or two, a very simple idea made sense. What can a diving instructor and a kayaking instructor do together?

The Excursions Barcelona Kayaking and Snorkeling Tour in Costa Brava was born!!

Actually, in truth, the Costa Brava part was added a bit further down the line. Our first few weeks were actually down south, in the beautiful town of Sitges.

Also, as we only had about 2 clients a day, we took the environmental (and financially viable) decision to take the train to Sitges.

As far as seaside towns go, Sitges is up there with the rest. A crazy amount of history and an amazing coastline. There was only one thing missing…… We just couldn’t find a great snorkeling spot that was close enough to be reached by kayaks from Sitges bay.

The plan was always to end up in Costa Brava, we already knew the place well, and we knew Sant Feliux de Guixols really well having kayaked and snorkeled around the area a ton of times.

To cut a long story short, we had good friends running a water-sports center in Sant Feliu, Toni and Santi. Everything just came together with these guys. We were lucky.

OUR RISE UP THE TRIP ADVISOR LADDER

Now, we would like to claim full responsibility for everything that happened in this chapter, but honestly, the truth is much more fun.

In the first summer doing our tour we seemed to have gotten a big chunk of our customers from Trip Advisor. We didn’t really know why, as, we never asked anyone to write a review and, crazily, we didn’t even realize we were on Trip Advisor. Neither of us listed our little company on there.

Whoever put us on there, whoever you are…… thank you so much! It has helped us get to where we are now. Though I have to say, we didn’t expect to sudden rise in bookings and therefore….. workload.

We started this as a 2 man summer hobby. Jb was mostly staying in the city doing walking and bike tours and plugging our kayaking tour at the same time. I of course, was doing daily tours in Costa Brava.

One of our best friends and great kayaker, Dave would help us out anytime we needed.

Now, we are 9 tour guides and instructors……… and….. finally, we now have a bit more time to concentrate on other, apparently important, aspects of a company like this is, our BLOG!! :).

We are constantly learning about running a small business, and we will never stop. Though one thing will always stay the same, this is still and always will be our hobby.
