Do you know the basics of sailing?

Sailing is one of the first means of transport created by humans. Used for sea fishing and for traveling, sailing has allowed humans to discover new regions, countries, civilizations and continents.

At the time, you could only sail thanks to the wind, which was not always easy, because without wind it was impossible to move. But since then, the Industrial Revolution has passed by and today many sailboats are equipped with engines, making navigation easier.

Sailing is not an easy activity, but it’s not impossible either! Some basic notions need to be learned, and if you don’t know the region and the sea, let the captain guide you! During our sailing excursions, we offer the opportunity to handle and drive the boat with the captain. Whether it’s your first time or not, sailing is always a privileged and unique moment!

If you want to know more about the different ways of sailing and also about the vocabulary of the navigation’s world, here are some basic concepts that can be helpful before going on a sailing excursion.

– Bow/Stern: The bow is the front of the boat, the stern is the back.
– Point of Sail: The boat’s direction relative to the wind
– Heeling: This is the term for when a sailboat leans over in the water, pushed by the wind.
– To tack: to tack is to change direction by turning the bow of the boat through the wind.

If you are interested in sailing, or if you want to learn more about this fascinating world, we strongly invite you to book an excursion aboard our sailboat. We will be happy to tell you more about the sailboats, while spending an exceptional moment all together!
